authoradmin | August 1, 2010

Scrapbooking can either be a project full of creativity and fun or frustrating as hell, depending on your set of tools. Alright, I’m dramatizing things a bit, but I want to make a point here.

Lots of fun can be spoiled by missing tools or tools that are of low quality and don’t meet your expectations.

There’s a set of Cricut tools that you can rely on in any situation: The Cricut Essentials.

Let me tell you what kind of tools you will find in the set and why you need them for your scrapbooking projects:

Hook: The hook is a high precision tool you can use to remove tiny scraps of paper from your cuts.

Spatula: The spatula is one of my favorite tools. Have you ever tried to pick up tiny bits of paper from your cutting mat by hand? This tool will make it easy for you.

Scraper: A great tool to quickly clean your cutting mat after finished the project, or between cut sessions. No bruises in your mat ever again.

Scoop: The classy way to open up the fragile edges of your paper cuts. With the scoop tool you will not damage your cuts in this risky situation.

Scissors: Maybe I shouldn’t even mention this but… without high quality scissors you will never have the precision and reliability that you need for delicate cuts.

Knife: A high precision tools for the most complex cuts, but you can also use it to slide it under the edges of your paper.

Bone Folder: Crease your Cricut paper, mark or score your paper.

Clear Ruler: Not much to say about this one. It’s the best tool to measure paper and card stocks for your project.

As you can see, each of these Cricut tools has a special task and during complex scrapbooking project you will be glad to have all of them close by.

Helping You Choose Your Goods For Scrapbooking

You do not have to spend a lot of money on scrapbooking supplies for it to be an interesting and fulfilling hobby. It can be as cheap as you want it to be, within reason, or as expensive. For scrapbooking enthusiasts the joy comes from the finished product. If you are new to scrapbooking, then it does not require a lot of start-up money. There will be some necessary scrapbooking tools and pages that you will need to purchase but they will not break the bank. Once you have the basics you can begin assembling your scrapbook.

When it comes to looking for scrapbooking albums it is important to choose the right one. The album should have a thick cover that will protect the contents from damage. It should also be easy to open and close. This is to ensure that you do not have to struggle with inserting new pages into the album. You’ll want decent sized scrapbook albums that will hold a good number of pictures.

When buying scrapbook pages, it is important to make sure they are acid-free. As well, the ink you use has to be suitable for writing in your scrapbook. You do not want the ink bleeding through to the next page and possibly ruining a picture. So be aware of the type of scrapbook paper that you buy. You may not want to invest in the best quality but you most certainly do not want to use just any old type of paper.

Another huge expense in the scrapbooking world is the sticker machine. This is a machine that turns pictures into stickers. It takes the place of die cuts. You can buy special paper that has the sticker material on the back and it will use the paper until it is completely gone. There are also three dimensional stickers that can go on the scrapbook pages.

If you are looking for scrapbooking suppliers, then you need to check out Anna Griffin and Martha Stewart’s line of scrapbooking supplies and kits. The supplies can be found at craft stores, such as Hobby Lobby and Michael’s Crafts Supplies. Just bear in mind that the more individualized and decorated scrapbook albums will be more expensive. It is best to start off slowly and gradually get into the swing of scrapbooking before you start to make a lot of purchases.
