Scrapbook Retreats

Don’t you want to know how to choose the right scrapbook themes?

Scrapbooks have been considered works of art for many years . A Scrapbook is a book filled with a collection of pictures  that focuses around a certain event or theme. Scrapbooking has been around for ages but has in recent years become a popular hobby for a very large group. Scrapbooks these days look very different than they did in years past. However, the scrapbooks and the reason for creating them still remains the same . There are so many different embellishments; papers and styles to choose from that one could have a very hard time selecting just the right materials.

Choosing a Scrapbook Theme selection does not have to be difficult. You can choose to create a complex or simple design. The themes can be focused on many different events such as birthdays, weddings, holidays and many other events. If you really wanted, you could create a scrapbook that focuses on you and your friends creating scrapbooks. Does this sound silly to you? If you really thing about it, this is no different than scrapbooking about one of your kids hobby or a sport they are involved in . What are the things that you would like to remember most about your life. It is all about the moments that you treasure .

When you are looking to select a Scrapbook Theme, you want to consider these three (3) things…

1. What is your objective - what do you look to achieve with your scrapbook?

2. Who are you making the scrapbook for? Is the scrapbook for you, your family, a friend or maybe for your child’s school…

3. Who or what is the content of your scrapbook? Who will be in the scrapbook? What photos do you want to make sure are in the book ?

These are some very important questions to ask your self before selecting your scrapbook theme. You are going to be telling a story through your scrapbook pages. You will want to use scrapbook embellishments that relate to the story that your scrapbook will tell. Remember, if you are creating the scrapbook for someone other than yourself such as a friend or relative, use scrapbook embellishments that reflect that person’s personality or their interests.

MY TOP WAYS TO COME UP WITH A SCRAPBOOK THEME

1. Look through your photos and as a collection you can produce a theme with what you find in common in these photos.

2. Memorable Vacations . Places you have visited or your most memorable vacation can help you in choosing a very nice theme.

3. Have you participated in any events or projects? Photos or mementos from these events can also be the basis of your scrapbook theme.

4. Your Childs Hobby . Like I said before… If you love scrapbooking, you may choose for your scrapbook theme to be related to scrapbooking. The things that bring you happiness can be your theme.

5. Genealogy and Family Tree Scrapbooks. Family Tree scrapbooks are a great way to preserve your family history and this is currently a very hot scrapbooking trend.

6. Create your own twist on template themes. Creating a scrapbook about yourself for your parents instead of just doing it for yourself.  These can be focused around recollections of your childhood.

Scrapbooking Theme Books with a Vellum Paper Twist

authoradmin | June 22, 2009

Scrapbooking theme books make great presents and are easy to put together. My friend, Celine, put this theme book together in a matter of hours! Her daughter has a kitten that she adores. Celine first gathered all the pictures of the cat that she could find. After that, she set al the pictures up in a way that it followed all of the cat's adventures and told a complete story. Celine then used vellum paper in her printer and text templates from the internet to make the cat’s funny sayings for each page. I didn't know cats could talk!!!! How wonderful and Funny!!

Finally, Celine decided on a common color scheme for the album and used these same colors on every page. Using scrapbook page templates to arrange the pictures, she pasted together the background. She next added mats to the pictures, added the text boxes and a few embellishments and voila! The book was done. Her daughter loved the album so much that Celine's next project is an album for her daughter's new puppy!!! Celine has already been shopping around for the perfect embellishments that will surely make this new dog album a favorite keepsake.

Some things to remember for theme books:

1)  Always sort through the pictures first and put them in chronological order.

2)  Use a common color theme throughout the album to create continuity.

3)  Keep the pages simple and add embellishments and journaling to add interest.

4) Be sure to try and add humour to your pages.

5) Add dates and key facts like (who, what, where, when) so that the album has historical attributes.

Enjoy yourself! Don't get caught up in what you should do, be creative, do what you think is neat and fun.

Theme books are great scrapbooking ideas because they can be started and finished all in one weekend or they can be labeled and added to over time as new pictures are taken. The best thing about theme books is that once you have a theme in mind, you’ll find all kinds of embellishments at home or at the stores that will accent your scrapbook perfectly!
