Do you love to preserve your memories?  Are you someone that has pictures of all of those precious moments sitting in a shoe box somewhere?  Are you looking for something creative to spend your free time working on? If any of those are true, you might want to think about scrapbooking as a hobby. Some people scrapbooking for the first time feel a little nervous starting out. It is much easier than initially thought. This article has been prepared to give new scrapbookers all the resources they need to get started.

What is scrapbooking?

The truth is that the goal of creating a scrapbook is to take care of your memories and to display them in a creative manner.  Scrabooking begins with a collection of memories, photos, invites and other memorabilia. Scrapbooks are usually focused around specific events such as a birthday or holiday. The backbone of a scrapbook is that each page is decorated by hand and will add to the feel of a memory much more than a standard photo album could. Typically, this is where you will see specific paper, cutouts, stickers, and other types of embellishment.

How to get started with scrapbooking?

Scrapbookers begin every book by collecting all of the photographs and materials in one location. Step two in this process is to start categorizing the photos and materials Basically, you want to divide them into groups by theme, date, or some other type of organization. Once you have achieved this, take some time to figure out which scrapbook you would like to start with. After all of that organization, you are really ready to get started. Get ahold of your preferred scrapbook and open it up. To make sure you book sticks to the same theme, make sure you have the first page layout complete before moving onto the second. Overall though, the most important part is to have fun and be creative!

Where to get scrapbooking materials?

There are a number of sources you can get scrapbooking materials from.  Craft stores are usually the first places people think of. Here you will be able to take a look at the papers, stickers, and embellishments in person. Online vendors also are another great source of scrapbooking supplies. Scrapbookers will find that there is a much larger range online than in conventional stores. However, do not disregard the contents of you home office or craft bin. A lot of scrappers get their materials from offcuts, leftover paper and cardboard and other craft bits.

How to improve?

The great thing about scrapbooking is that you can always get better. There are fabulous resources online to take advantage of like tutorials. However, if you do better in person then you might want to look into some of the scrapbooking classes that are offered at your local craft store or parks and recreation department. Additionally, there are a great deal of scrapbooking clubs available.  There you can learn quite a bit from the experiences of others.
