Crafts You Can Create With Old Pictures

authoradmin | January 25, 2012

Just about everybody has extra photographs around the house. They might be pictures that are duplicates of other photos you used in albums, or maybe they’re photos that just didn’t turn out the way you had hoped they would. You might even have pictures of people you don’t know, especially if you happened to acquire some old photos from some relatives. If you have some photos that you really do not need but can’t seem to throw away, why not use them to create some fun and interesting craft projects? When you are all finished you will have some great results that you’ll be able to use in the decoration of your own house, or maybe even as a gift to someone else.

Placemats Made Out of Pictures

Old pictures can be used to make really interesting and pretty placemats for a table. Start by using an existing placemat to trace the dimensions and shape onto a section of light cardboard or poster board. Then stick the pictures to one side of the shape with some “photo splits” or perhaps some glue. You may organize them in any pattern you like, including a grid pattern or maybe a random collage design. When finished, seal the placemat by cutting out two pieces of clear contact paper that are both large enough to extend about a half inch on all sides of the cardboard placemat. Sandwich the placemat between the two sheets of contact paper, making sure to seal off the two contact paper sheets carefully along the free edges.

Antique Wall Art

If you have some quaint black and white pictures, you can use them to create vintage art. Simply select a few old photos that have a lot of visual appeal, and place them in unique round picture frames or vintage photo frames to hang in a small collection on your wall. Or you might even scan the photo into a computer and enlarge it before printing it out so that your piece of artwork will be larger. This is a fantastic way of adding some great vintage art to your home without the need to invest a lot of money.

Picture Container for Storage Space

If your nice photos are kept in boxes, you might wish to decorate those containers with some old pictures. Use a collage technique to cover the entire box with old pictures, and make sure you cover up the box and the top separately. When the glue has dried your photo boxes will certainly be attractive enough for displaying on a shelf.

Family Tree Art

If your photographs feature lots of family members and other relations, you might decide to make a nice poster of your family tree. Use a design to create your chart, or simply figure out your own pattern. Then complete the family tree data, gluing a small photo beside their information. This can be a good way to use photos of family groupings, since you can simply cut a small portrait of every family member out of one photo. When completed, place in a picture frame and hang on your wall.

Decoupage Photo Crafts

You may make some lovely crafts when you put together decoupage and old photos. You will find full instructions for creating a number of different crafts on the Mod Podge container. Before using photos for decoupage, spray them each with a couple coats of clear acrylic spray, which will keep photos from smudging when the Mod Podge is used.

So don’t throw away those old photos just yet! You are sure to enjoy employing them for these fun crafts.
