Airfix Model Railways For A Fantastic New Activity
My husband retired last year and found himself with a lot other time on his hands. He was getting under my feet, so I asked him to try and find himself a activity. While he enjoyed DIY and gardening, it did not seem to excite him anymore. As a pursuit, they were not decent.
The other day we dug out some tired photographs and had a bit of a chuckle looking at them. There was one photo of him as a child standing next to a railway model. This is how the scheme to take up model railway building as a leisure activity began. He’s always had an curiosity in trains so we both thought this would be a great way for him to relax and adjust to retirement.
He couldn’t wait to start and show the grandchildren what he was up to. He wanted to give details and show off the whole set up to them. We have a spare room upstairs which was cleared out to make enough space for the kits he was going to order online.
I must say he was amazed at the specialist websites that cater for people with interests in model railways. They not only sell great building kits, but also offer handy hints and advice to beginners and people who simply love model railways.
You can purchase everything that’s connected with railways online. Brand names like Pico, Lima and Gaugemaster are widely stocked. Don’t forget about all the accessories you need too. Tracks, electronics, locomotives, buildings and scenery all go together to make up a full scene. My hubby was upbeat at how reasonable the prices of everything was. He soon chose what he wanted and placed an order straightaway.
These websites also sell other model kits. Aircraft, cars, and motorbikes are just three examples. My husband, of course, had his heart stuck on building model railways.
His order arrived though the post quite quickly. I should have taken a snap of his face, he was so excited and keen to start. He locks himself away in his room for hours on end and some days, I hardly see him. I laugh as I can hear him muttering as he is putting the parts together that make up the model railway. When we go out, he’s eager to get back home and begin the next phase of building his kits. He is greatly happy now as he no longers watches the clock for hours on end.
He was looking at railway sites the other day on the computer. He was after other parts to add to his growing collection. There are buy and sell sites too, that enthusiasts the world over use to trade and sell model railway parts. Our eldest grandson is also interested in his grandfather’s hobby, it’s really good to see them together.
