More and more people are getting hooked on scrapbooking these days. The wide selection of scrapbooking tools and materials available at arts and crafts stores will attest to that. Some of these items even come with surprisingly steep prices. So, are you thinking of embracing the hobby as well, but concerned of the fortune you might need to spend?
The good news is: it’s possible to take up the craft and never worry about overshooting a certain budget. You can create lovely and unique albums, without feeling guilty about too much spending. How, you may ask? Simple: by following some of the money-saving tips for scrapbookers below.
First you should come up with an album where everything will be placed in. You may use the flaps of huge cartons in creating an album cover. If you got binders lying around, rip off unused pages and you got an instant cover. Now’s the time to jumpstart your creativeness in giving it a face-lift. Ready-made albums can come with steep prices.
For the scrapbook pages, old folders or cardboard sheets may be used, and cover them with used gift wrappers. You may also do so using colorful magazine pages. Or why not make your own recycled paper? Immerse in water overnight strips of newspapers. Then turn them into pulp them using a blender. Transfer them onto a mesh, making thin sheets, and let dry under the sun.
Before throwing out old clothing, save some of the fabrics, buttons, cords, and others which could act as ornaments. Look around your husband’s workbench for small items like nuts, washers, etc. Some of the nicest embellishments you can use do not necessarily have to come from arts and crafts shops. Some of them are just lying around your home, waiting to be used creatively.
The ticket stub during your son’s school performance with his takamine acoustic guitar will make for a good embellishment. And so will the confetti or party hat used on your daughter’s birthday celebration. No matter the occasion or wherever you go, you will find little things to put on your creations. Even the sand collected from your recent beach getaway may be used!
As with the tools, you can always borrow from a fellow scrapbooker. There’s no need to buy every single tool available for the hobby. In fact, you can get by with just a good old pair of scissors and a cutter. Find clever ways how to cut interesting shapes and patterns. By simply using your resourcefulness, coming up with breathtaking creations is possible, even without spending a lot on them.
