Have a pajama party. Leave your sleepwear on for the whole day. Spend the day playing board games, watching movies while eating popcorn and finish the day off with an indoor camping trip. Lay out sleeping bags or air mattresses on the living room floor, make s’mores and take turns telling stories. Then spend the night sleeping in your living room.

If your children are outgrowing their bedroom, let them help you update it. Pick out a new paint color together for the walls and then go to a home decor accents section of a local retail store to choose a new mirror or lamp. You can give their room a new updated feel without a high cost. Let them help with the painting and decorating and they may even keep it cleaner because they actually have invested some work into the room.

Spend the day sorting through family photographs. Let your kids make scrapbook pages with some pictures of themselves. Use stickers to embellish the page. They may decide to make a very simple page or the page may be filled with decorations. Either way, praise their efforts and spend some time talking together about the things going on in the photographs. You may be surprised at what memories they have kept.

You could pretend you are visiting your area on vacation. Go to a local attraction that someone from out of town might visit. It can be a museum or art gallery that you have never been to or you could even visit you local city or state park. Pack a picnic lunch and let your children run and play. Maybe they will even meet a new friend!

Let your children write and perform a puppet play. Let them use some old socks to make their puppets. Have them design the set with construction paper. In the evening, gather the family together to watch the children’s performance.
